It has been awhile since I have written a Climate Change article. It seems some old debunked arguments are resurfacing and being spread around as new factual proof of Climate Change again.
This weekend I was spending some time with my grandkids and they were watching some educational videos and in the middle of one, a commercial popped up showing an animated world when a voice over and the text over the world said “99% of the worlds scientist agree that Climate Change is real” and “99% of scientist have a consensus that human’s cause Climate Change”. It ended with forest fires, drought and floods pictured. I paused the video and ran it back a few times and couldn’t find a cited documented source just the commercial. Since my grandkids are too young to understand Climate Change I didn’t start that discussion but it was a reminder the propaganda is still going strong and they want kids not even in school yet to be “educated” in it.
Many but not all people know that the “Consensus” argument cooked up by John Cook, was a beautifully written piece of fictional research that proved that if you cannot find the results you want, just make them up.
The CON-sensus - Link
It is an old argument from the 2013 97% Consensus paper written by Cook et. al. that stated that 97% of all scientist agreed with the theory of Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming (CAGW) aka Man-Made Climate Change. We found that wasn’t true at all.
Cook analyzed the abstracts of just under 12,000 papers on CAGW of those he found 66% had no position on CAGW, 32% favored the theory of CAGW and about 1% was either negative or neutral.
“Cook goes on to claim that of those papers taking a position on global warming (either explicitly or implicitly), 97.1 percent agreed that humans to some degree contribute to global warming.
In terms of peer-reviewed papers, the “97 percent consensus” is really the “32.6 percent consensus” if all the studies reviewed are taken into account.”
So Cook took the ones that agreed with him some 1300 or so, added a few that did not.. then claimed his study found that scientist agreed with CAGW by 97%.
This was like the Mann Hockey Stick 1999 research that claimed that the warming we are experiencing now is unprecedented and rising 10-20 times faster then at anytime in the past.
The Hockey Shtick … Link
Like its later cousin the Consensus, Michael Mann published works went out to every allied Media outlet and politician and was used as definitive PROOF that CAGW aka Climate-Change was real, a threat and you must be taxed to fix it. Mann used a set of made up data then used that to make his graph that the media referred to as the Mann Hockey Stick”. Mann broke a basic rule of science. 1+1 does not in fact equal 3 Mann’s equations were not repeatable and thus not scientifically accurate.
Out of all of this the Chicago Climate Exchange was born
Al Gore and his group of minions created a market program where you could buy Climate Credits from 3rd World country’s imaginary carbon footprint and use those credits to offset your carbon footprint. A more classic Ponzi scheme one cannot find. Your money would wind up mostly in their pockets but some would be sent to those 3rd World countries to plant a tree for you.
Al Gore. Barrack Obama and in fact, everyone involved in “Climate-Change” has become filthy rich pushing the CAGW scam and you know it is a scam because these so called Climate Warriors all drive MEGA SUVS and fly all over the world, selling their brand of snake oil to the other filthy rich politicians who are skimming their money off of insider trading. These new age prophets of Climate doom talk of “Earth Fevers” and “Catastrophic sea level rise” all while buying multi-million dollar homes on the beach which uses more energy from dirty petroleum, in a month then the average family does in a year. Charlatans and hypocrites come to mind.
Is Climate Change happening in a word… yes. Is it catastrophic… maybe? Those reading this will not be alive to find out, so we have to do something though .. don’t we?
Do we?
If it’s a natural progression of the earth warming because we are coming out on the Little Ice Age (LIA) then the answer is no, at some point it will level out and begin the cycle all over again. History and Science has shown us the Earth has been both colder and warmer then today so if we do nothing the most likely outcome is the earth will seek a new equilibrium and then we adapt, as we have always done.
But what does it hurt to do something, I mean it’s Mother Earth right?
Let’s say the US in it’s infinite wisdom decides that Climate Change is going to kill us all say in about 10 years, as some are claiming now, and they decide to stop all industrial processes that burns Petroleum in any form. All cars are left on the side of the road we all go back to pre-modern times.
We save the earth then right?
Well, no we don’t because China, Russia, India, Pakistan and every other non-CAGW country will continue right on doing what they are doing and emit CO2 at ever increasing rates. China and India both are building coal fired power plants at a rate we haven’t seen in decades. For every ton the US eliminates they add 30 tons. Will killing our economy fix the CO2 problem? No.. but CO2 is not a problem, it’s literally plant food. Most people don’t know that photosynthesis stops or slows significantly around 180-200ppm of CO2 we are currently only 230-240ppm from a life ending event without plants and trees we die. The higher our CO2 gets, the better off we are and if the warming is natural then we would give up our way of life for no gain.
So EVs are the answer…right?
In short no.. at least not right now. Technically it is unproven technology. While batteries and battery powered cars have been around awhile, it still has issues performing as well as a combustion powered car does.
Even if the technology was just as good we don’t have the infrastructure for it.
Currently the US uses 4.2 Trillion kWh (4 Terrawatts)per year and rising. Our current energy production capabilities are barely keeping up. The reason being all of the closed power stations that have been shut down in the last decade and no new systems being built to replace them.
This administration and the Green machine is trying to completely shutdown the petroleum industry in favor of “free” wind and solar. IF we look at just using wind and solar to replace what we currently use you would need to take the states of Idaho, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas or the entire state of Texas take every building, home, apartment and industry and destroy them completely to have the space needed for Windmills and Solar panels. No people no nothing.
Now adding all EVs to replace the combustion engine each home would need to add 180amps to their existing 100amp service and add two charging stations in order to charge them quickly at a cost of over $30,000 not including the cost of the cars.
The personal use need alone would add approximately 2.5 Trillion kWh (2 Terrawatts) to the grid, add in a commercial market, you are now adding another 4.5 Trillion kWh (4.5 Terrawatts) bringing the total usage need to an astounding 11 Trillion kWh (11 Terrawatts). Now we will need New Mexico, Arizona Colorado and Utah in addition to all of the others and that will not produce enough power 24/7. So we would need all of the current power generation stations PLUS an additional 50% increase in capacity to maintain power 24/7.
A real solution if you wanted a true carbon free society is Nuclear and Hydrogen. The plants can supply reliable power during the day and when demand drops at night make hydrogen all night long. We could have true energy independence but the Greenies and radicals of the left say no to that too. No hydropower, no Nuclear power thus no hydrogen fuel, no molten salt power nothing but solar and wind and that’s it.
Why?
Your guess is as good as any others. If you want to travel down the rabbit hole, one might note that the greenies have been taken over by people with ties to China and Russia who would love to see us brought to our knees and the lack of energy would do that nicely.
China and Russia in control of the Green New Deal... Link
We can make the future ready for a smaller petroleum based US but we are not ready today, we won’t be ready tomorrow either, but at some point in the future we could do this the right way and make America thrive. Trying to force it will only cause it to fail and that failure will have ramifications long into the future.
